Ubi jus, ibi remedium

They say we have our freedom,
ingrained in section 39 of our constitution
with this, we can express our grievances
we cry out from the depths of frustration and despair,
our hearts ache because things are becoming unbearable
things are beginning to fall apart
our markets are now battlefields,
a loaf of bread now costs ten times its sweat,
and the price of rice feels like buying a plot of land
a trip to the market is a dreaded thought these days
a nation of hustlers, yet we are branded as lazy
not because we are not working,
we work, we fight, we strive yet it never reflect
like bees in a hive, yet it never reflects.
but how can we live with lungs full of dust?

Our heart aches, our bodies grow pale.
We are strong, yet feel weak.
I wonder how those who struggle to eat when things were affordable, survive now that prices have multiplied tenfold

But where is the welfare of the people?
Where is the “Salus populi suprema lex esto”
The promise of Section 14 that “the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government”?
Where is the right to livelihood under Section 17

“Ubi jus, ibi remedium.”
Where there is a right, there should be a remedy.

We demand our voices be heard, not silenced.
We demand a nation where sweat brings progress, not punishment.
Where living means thriving, not surviving with broken dreams.

Our voices burn with truth,
Fuelled by pain and hope.

Listen to our voices now

They say we have our freedom, ingrained in section 39 of our constitution with this, we can express our grievances...
